  • Somatics Changed My Life

Last year was an interesting year for me. I was introduced to the world of somatic experiencing by a very good friend and it has changed everything for me. There is a range of somatic methods and applications and at the core of them is the concept that we are a full being and our…

    Working with a Personal Trainer

One thing I’ve done recently that had a big impact on my health was to work with a personal trainer (online). I wasn’t really sure what that would be like so I thought I’d share why I found one to work with and how that went for me in case others are curious. Why a…

    Two Years of Healthy Changes

Two years ago today I started yet another new exercise plan. I’d been stopping and starting with exercise over the previous year, but I just hadn’t been able to get it to stick. This time however, I’ve managed to keep it going. I’ve done some form of exercise at least 3 days a week for…

I’m also known as add1sun throughout the internets (add1sun is just Addison spelled in a way that the name wouldn’t be taken when I signed up for new accounts.)

I’m a middle-aged woman (she/her), born in the United States and now living in Denmark with my Danish wife since 2011. While I live permanently in Denmark, we also live in Oaxaca, Mexico for a few months in the winter and we fully embrace the distributed nature of both our jobs that lets us travel extensively. I’m a bit of nerd who likes to dig deep into fitness, health, nature, and food, or whatever new thing catches my interest.

I’m the CEO for an online tech education company called Osio Labs, which teaches people how to use open source tools like the Drupal content management system and Node.js. I’ve been an open source advocate for over a decade and have spoken at many events over the years on technical, community, and leadership topics. I’ve also written two books for O’Reilly about Drupal and in 2010 I was recognized as one of the Most Influential Women in Tech by Fast Company Magazine.

In the world of health, I’m constantly exploring and learning about all aspects of health, including fitness, mental health, and nutrition. These days I’m particularly focused on perimenopause, which I’m experiencing myself, and topics related to understanding pain and how to make movement practices more accessible to people—especially those that are historical excluded or forgotten in movement spaces. I’m currently studying to become an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and soaking in so many great programs like the Empowered Performance and Sleep and Recovery Coach courses.
